New Book: Haunted Pasts

This was a fun book. It has drama, adventure, joy and fear; everything but the car chase and big explosion. The hero must go through a serious learning curve and the potential cost is her very life. One of the nice things about this book is that it is age friendly as the level of graphic content is extremely mild. On the whole, it is a fun and enjoyable book.

Customer Review:

For me the test of a good book is how long it sticks in my mind after the final page. That would make this a very good book indeed since I can't stop thinking about it. I'm still thinking about the main character, Lana, and the emotional abuse suffered by so many bullied students today; about the thoughtless cruelty inflicted by one teen on another with no regard for its impact; and about the lengths to which the bullied would be willing to go to hopefully find some measure of acceptance. It's all too common today and it's an underlying theme in Lana's life. Then there's the story within the story: the history of the old house and its occupants. "If only these walls could talk..." Well in this case they do, and the mystery of the old house is yet another intriguing tale and an example of how the past seeps into the present. The interaction between the central character, Lana, and the ghost is complicated and becomes more and more intense as the story develops. At times it's difficult to tell one from the other despite the differences in their personalities. And the ending--I have to admit that I never saw it coming. I am definitely still thinking about that. Was this a Happily Ever After? And if so, for whom?
